The Faculty of Science Library is the second largest library among the libraries within the Addis Ababa University Libraries (AAUL) system next to the John F. Kennedy Memorial library. The library's objective is to render library service that can meet the needs of undergraduate and graduate studies and research. It comprises collection of science and science related resources that include over 60,000 catalogued books, 25,000 journals, and more than 10,000 titles of electronic journals and other scholarly databases.
Services point at FSLL
It has been giving its service in four sections (Circulation, Reference service, Technical Process and Periodical Collections).Circulation Service Point
- Short Loan (Spot Reading) Service: Spot reading or short loan service is a loan service given for two hours only by filling a time card.
- Long Loan Service: is provided for all academic and administrative staff of the University, all postgraduate and undergraduate regular students. Users are provided with pockets for borrowing materials for 15 days.
- Pocket Issuance and clearance: Pocket Cards are used to borrow books from the library and one pocket is equivalent with one book. Issuance and clearance is done usually at the end of each academic year and also whenever a user wants to withdraw.
- Photocopying Services: The service is being provided in the library and outside the library within the campus and strictly allowed for half an hour (30 minutes).
A service point with the collection of Journals (both bound and unbound), current local/foreign newspapers, newsletters, pamphlets. Electronic journals service is also provided at this service point.
Reference Service Point
Reference Section is the other major service point that assists users in making effective and efficient use of the library and various information resources. The reference collection includes: Encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, maps, glossaries, handbooks, bibliographies and others. The service point provides answer to user queries by making use of various information resources, organizing library orientation, gives Internet service.
Electronic service
point is the other service point at the reference section where internet, CD-Room service and other electronic services are provided.
