Then the Department has grown into being one of the largest Departments in the Faculty of Science, while making adequate contributions to the dissemination of knowledge and development of scientific manpower in the country. The members of the Department have been diligently working over the years to fulfill the expected aims and objectives of the country at large and the University in particular.
Aims and Objectives
From the beginning, the department has tuned itself to the following aims and objectives:
- Produce skilled manpower of well trained chemists, at different levels of education, capable of taking up positions in various socio-economic sectors of the country.
- Build research capabilities as required by the national development and academic needs;
- Produce chemistry teachers for education sector of the country
- Advance frontiers of knowledge in the area of chemical sciences.
- Disseminate knowledge on chemistry and related areas through active participation in related professional activities, such as Chemical Society of Ethiopia, Regional Networking, Workshops, Symposia and Publications;
- Develop capabilities for the provision of consultancy and technical services as well as short term specialized training to both public and private sectors;
- Support other higher learning education, such as engineering, medicine and other basic sciences through the provision of service courses;
- Stimulate scientific curiosity and general intellectual objectives aimed at producing matured and conscious citizens;
